What Is Car Suspension?
A plain-language introduction to the parts that support ride comfort, tyre contact, steering stability, and vehicle control.
What the suspension does
The suspension connects the body and wheels while allowing controlled movement over uneven roads. Its parts help keep the tyres in contact with the road and influence ride comfort, steering response, braking stability, and tyre wear.
Parts work as a system
Springs support vehicle weight, dampers control movement, and arms, joints, bushes, links, and wheel bearings guide the wheels. Alignment settings determine how the tyres meet the road. A symptom can have several causes, so inspection matters.
When to request an inspection
Book an inspection for persistent knocking, excessive bouncing, uneven tyre wear, a changed steering feel, pulling, or a vehicle that sits unevenly. Avoid assuming one named component is responsible before it is checked.
Use this as guidance, not a diagnosis.
Vehicle symptoms can have several causes. If safety, steering, braking, visibility, warning lights, leaking fluids, or unusual behaviour concerns you, reduce driving and arrange a qualified inspection.
