How to Stop Your Wipers from Squeaking
Start with simple cleaning and inspection, then replace worn blades when noise or poor clearing continues.
Clean the glass and rubber
Dust, road film, wax, and residue can make a healthy blade chatter or squeak. Clean the windscreen with a suitable glass cleaner and wipe the blade edge gently with a damp, clean cloth.
Inspect for wear
Replace blades that are split, hardened, distorted, missing pieces, or leaving persistent streaks. Confirm that the blade is attached correctly and that no protective shipping strip remains.
Do not bend the arm by guesswork
A damaged arm, weak spring, incorrect blade, windscreen issue, or linkage problem may need professional inspection. Avoid bending the arm or applying household oils to the rubber.
Use this as guidance, not a diagnosis.
Vehicle symptoms can have several causes. If safety, steering, braking, visibility, warning lights, leaking fluids, or unusual behaviour concerns you, reduce driving and arrange a qualified inspection.
